The Wikipedia entry has a brief run down on Scientology. If you want to learn more you will have to fork over thousands of dollars to the church (which I do not recommend).

Scientology may be transitioning into a bona fide religion, at least in Great Britain. The Crown Prosecution Service has decided that anyone who attacks Scientology can be prosecuted under faith hate laws.

The move will for the first time provide the controversial Church of Scientology – described by some as a cult – the same protection as other mainstream religions.

Sept 4, 2007
A Belgian prosecutor recommended that the Church of Scientology stand trial for fraud and extortion, following a 10-year investigation that concluded the group should be labeled a criminal organization.

June 9, 2004
A popular anti-drug program provided free to schools in San Francisco and elsewhere teaches concepts straight out of the Church of Scientology, including medical theories that some addiction experts described as "irresponsible" and "pseudoscience."
